In online auctions, there are several reasons why you may receive an outbid notification even after placing a bid.
Maximum Bid System
Pristine Auction uses a maximum bid system.
When placing a bid, you may enter the highest amount you are willing to pay for an item. The system will then automatically place incremental bids on your behalf only when necessary.
If another user has entered a higher maximum bid than yours:
- The system will automatically outbid your offer
- You may receive an outbid notification immediately or shortly after bidding
- The competing bidder’s maximum amount remains hidden
Matching Maximum Bids
If two users enter the same maximum bid amount:
- The bidder who placed the maximum bid first will remain the highest bidder
- Timing determines priority when maximum bids are identical
Reserve Prices
Some auctions may include a reserve price set by the seller.
If the reserve price has not been met:
- The system may automatically place bids against your offer until the reserve is satisfied
- The item will not sell unless the reserve requirement is met
Why Did I Get Outbid Immediately?
You may be outbid immediately if:
- Another bidder has already entered a higher hidden maximum bid
- The auction has a reserve price that exceeds your bid
- Another bidder submitted the same maximum bid before you
This is normal behavior within automatic bidding systems.
Important Notes
- Hidden maximum bids are not visible to other users.
- Outbid notifications are automated and based on auction activity.
- Auction activity can change rapidly near closing time.
- Placing a higher maximum bid may improve your chances of winning the auction.
